What you're actually getting

Pattern recognition you can keep coming back to.

If you coach or train long enough, you keep running into the same problem: you can see something isn't right, but you can't quite name what's driving it. The hip's shifting. The traps are taking over. The glutes aren't responding. The pain's back at exactly the same point in the cycle.

Pattern recognition is what closes that gap, and pattern recognition is built from reps. From watching enough bodies under load that you know what you're looking at within a few seconds.

Most coaches don't have those reps. Tony has spent over 30 years on the gym floor, three days a week, working with athletes, gen-pop clients, and everyone in between. The Weak Links & Movement Seminar is the system he's built across that time, taught directly. The course is that two-day seminar, filmed, edited, and produced into a reference library you keep for life.

You watch Tony assess real lifters under load. You hear him talk through what he's seeing as it happens. You see the same patterns play out across different bodies and different lifts. And then you take what you saw and apply it.

Every time a client's video lands on your screen and you're not sure what you're looking at, you have somewhere to come back to.

What you learn

Two days. The full diagnostic-to-programming process.

Day 1

The In-Gym Practical

Filmed live at Paddo Performance Gym in Sydney. Four hours on the gym floor with Tony assessing real lifters under load.

What you see:

  • The squat, hinge, press, pull, and single-leg work used as assessment tools

  • What to look for in each lift, what it tells you about a lifter's weak links, what anatomy is driving what you see, and how to confirm what you're looking at

  • A shoulder and upper body block: delts vs traps, scapular control, the patterns behind shoulder pain and lagging muscle development

  • A lower body block: glute under-recruitment, hip shifts, the patterns that quietly cap squat and deadlift progress and muscle growth

  • Tony assessing multiple lifters across the same patterns — so you see the same compensations play out across different bodies

Day 2

The Programming Lab

Filmed live on Zoom. Three hours of the anatomy and programming logic underneath everything you saw on Day 1.

What you get:

  • How to turn an assessment into a clear programming change

  • Where to place special exercises in the training week, and which ones to use

  • How to adjust volume and intensity around the weak link while training stays productive

  • How to plan progressions over 4–12 week blocks for beginners, intermediates and advanced lifters

  • Case studies from Tony's athletes and gen-pop clients

  • A deep dive into the research that underpins the assessment system — over 50 studies — and how to apply it in real programs, not just in theory

Weak Links and Movement Seminar reference text

The book is a clinical-grade reference on movement dysfunction and breakdown, organised joint by joint: foot, hip, low back, shoulder, elbow, wrist. Each chapter covers the functional anatomy of the region, why dysfunction develops, how to assess it, and the special exercises Tony uses to address it.

The shoulder section is the largest. It's the body part most coaches struggle to read under load, and the chapter walks through scapular kinematics, the force couples that drive scapular motion, and the rehab progressions for the patterns that most often go misdiagnosed.

Built on the published work of Kibler, Neumann, McGill, Ludewig, Cools, Myers, and others. Each chapter cites the primary sources so you can read further if you want.

Delivered as a PDF in your student portal alongside the course recordings.

120+

pages of joint-by-joint anatomy, assessment logic, and special exercise selection. Cite-backed and structured for reference, not just reading once.

For Coaches icon For Coaches

If you're a coach who's tired of guessing why certain clients or body parts won't progress, this is the system. It works whether you coach in person, online, or both.

Coaches working remotely get an additional benefit: the produced course becomes a reference library of Tony's 30-year diagnostic eye on real bodies under load.

Every time a client's video lands on your screen and you're not sure what you're looking at, you have somewhere to come back to.

For Experienced Lifters icon For Experienced Lifters & Fitness Enthusiasts

If you've done the courses, you write your own training, and there's a body part, a pain pattern, or a stuck lift that's been sitting unresolved for years — this is the system Tony uses with his private clients.

It applies regardless of training age or recovery profile, and the principles hold whether you're 25 or 65.

About Tony

Dr Tony Boutagy, PhD

Dr Tony Boutagy holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology and has spent over 30 years coaching on the gym floor in Sydney. He's worked with professional athletes, gen-pop clients, and everyone in between.

His approach bridges the gap between researchers who don't coach and coaches who can't read the full literature. The Weak Links & Movement system was built across decades of real-world application, then anchored back to over 50 published studies — and it's the framework he uses with his own private clients.

Tony hasn't taken on a new private client in over five years. He's at capacity.
